The Valspar Corporation, a global leader in the paint and coatings industry, is expanding its research and development campus and renovating its historic, former headquarters building in downtown Minneapolis. The $30 million project adds 87,000 square feet of laboratory, meeting, and office space and creates 135 jobs in the materials sciences industry.
“Downtown Minneapolis is an excellent place to expand our R&D center given the access to the strong scientific and business talent of this region, “ said Gary Hendrickson, chairman and chief executive officer of Valspar. “Along with convenient transportation connections, Minneapolis provides a friendly business environment to compete globally.”
The Minneapolis campus is the anchor of the company’s research and development network worldwide. These facilities enable Valspar’s research and development teams to drive the development of new products, answer customer’s questions , develop polymers with unique performance, and establish new test protocols to ensure quality. The R&D center in Minneapolis will also enable Valspar to expand its partnerships with highly regarded research institutions, including the University of Minnesota, located just minutes away.
